Stage 23: San Lorenzo Nuovo - Montefiascone (29.04.2006)
Backgroundinformation
We begin in San Lorenzo Nuovo south of Acquapendente and march to Montefiascone. Lake Bolsena is largest volcanic crater lake in Italy. We halt for a rest in the center of Bolsena to visit the Romanic Santa Cristina Church and the catacombs for the first Christian century underneath it. We continue along the Via Francigena where it joins the souther section of the old Roman Via Cassia, which was built over 2100 years ago and connected Chiusi with Rome. Montefiascone also has prepared a reception. Length of this stage: 27 km (60% gravel and meadow paths, 40% pavement).
